Show OBITUARY OF ELDER HALISE BARNES OWENS Halsie Barnes Owens was born May 4, 1907 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. child of ten children, born to James and Eva Owens. He was the seventh He was called from labor to reward on October 22, 1999 in Salt Lake City at the Evergreen Canyons Rehabilitation Center. He attended the Pleasant Green school in Kingfisher County. He married Virneda Irby on May 20, 1924 in Crescent, Oklahoma. They moved to Ogden in, 1945, where they resided until moving to Salt Lake City in 1996. He worked at the Union Pacific Railroad, the Union Train Station, and Clearfield Job Corps. — He was an Elder for over forty-five years, an Assistant Pastor at Finley Temple Church of God in Christ under Bishop Nathaniel Jones, a Associate Minister at the Wall Avenue Church of God in Christ under Elder John H. Parker and Lincoln Avenue Church of God in Christ under Elder R.R. Girley. He also was State President of the Mission Department. | He was a lifetime member of NAACP and received a Community Service award. He also received an award from the Governor’s office for Foster Mother and Father of the year. This past May they were recognized for being married 75 years. He is survived by his wife of seventy-five years, Virneda Owens, of Salt Lake City; four daughters: Evelyn (Robert) Harris, Roy; Oretha (Frank) Brooks, Salt Lake City; Vivian (Jack) Brown, Ogden and Vasthi Moseley, Layton; 29 Grandchildren; 88 GreatGrandchildren and 41 Great-great Grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by both parents, six brothers, three sisters, two sons, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather. in our hearts. We loved him and you will always be |
