Show CHARLES E. NELSON CLEARFIELD— Charles Edward Nelson, 60, passed away peacefully on June 2, | 1998 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He fought a valiant, courageous battle to the end with cancer. / In Loving Memory Of He was the youngest of five children born on February 4, 1938 in Danville, Illinois, a son of Wisdom L. and Edna E. Wright Nelson. _ September 3, 1958. He married Shizue Kamekawa on : He enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 21, 1955, and led a very illustrious career over his 30 years of service. He retired from the Air Force ini March of 1985, after having attained the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His rank was in the top 1% of all the Air Force enlisted force. His military career spanned the world with assignments at Park AFB, CA; Scott AFB, Illinois; Smoky Hill AFB, Kansas; Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan; Turax Field, Wisconsin: Rockville Air Force Station, IN; Naha Air. Base, Okinawa, Japan; Chanute AFB, IL; and Hill AFB, Utah. He served as a Goniecles and Center Duty Officer and member of the Board of Directors at Clearfield Job Corps Center. He also served as a Soe manager in the Civilian Personnel Office at Hill Air Force Base. He was the Black History Chairperson for 11 years ad Black Emphasis Program _ Manager for ten years at HAFB. His efforts benefited the black populace of Utah and had a tremendous positive impact on minority populations. Mr. Nelson will be remembered for his significant contributions to Equal Employment Program prreding people of all races. Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative guidance for a advancement and upward mobility to many He had received many awards, both military and iia. for the exceptional service he rendered, including Headquarters Air Force Material Command, the United States Air Force Distinguished Equal Opportunity Award, the Black Scholars Community Service Award from Weber State University in 1993, and Special Services Award presented by Blacks in Government in 1994. He was twice appointed to the Governors Advisory Council by both Gov. Scott Matheson and Gov. Norman Bangeter. Charles was a member of the V.F.W.; the American Legion; the Air Force Sergeants Association; the NAACP; Free and Accepted Masons, Price Hall affiliation; and the United Supreme Council of the 3374 Degree Masons, Prince Hall affiliation. He was a member of the True Vine Baptist Church in Kaysville, Utah. Surviving are his wife, Shizue and a daughter, Mika Nelson, both of Clearfield; one granddaughter, Aaliyah Shanice Barton, Okinawa, Japan. Also surviving are one sister, Billie (Henry) Thompson, Danville, Illinois; two brothers, William (Jewel) Nelson, Danville, Iihnois; Joe (Dolores) Nelson, Colorado Springs, Colorado; his aunts, Georgia Atmore, - Danville, Illinois; Evelyn (Stephen) Morris, Danville, Illinois; brother-in-law and sister-inlaw, Tony and Mitsue Aguilar; two nieces and a nephew, Michiko, Richard, and Christina. He also had many extended family members and caring friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
