Show MARY MADELEINE MARRIOTT HARROP I am Mary Madeleine Marriott Harrop. My parents were Charles Arthur Marriott and Mary Agnes Farley Marriott of 1208 Porter Avenue, Ogden, Utah. I was their sixth child and first daughter. On October 23, 1909, I was born in the family home. I had a fair complexion, having blond hair and light brown eyes. From early childhood I was taught about the life of my grandparents. I have always been so grateful and proud of my pioneer heritage. All my grandparents were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They left their homelands, comfortable homes, relatives, and friends to immigrate to Utah and be with others in Zion. Though they made sacrifices and suffered tribulations in their new surroundings, they always gave testimonies to the truthfulness of the Gospel. They never regretted joining the Church. Being involved by contributing information toward biographies of my pioneer grandparents and their posterity has strengthened my testimony. MY PARENTS My mother, Mary Agnes Farley Marriott, had been an excellent, professional seamstress. She was asked by her employer to go to France and work there. However, she chose to marry and raise a family. My Father, Charles Arthur Marriott, farmed, was a barber, and retired after numerous years of employment in the Ogden City School District as Superintendent of Buildings and Supplies. MY BROTHERS and SISTER My parents had seven children. The first was Horace Eugene Marriott born January 14, 1885 in Ogden. He married Myrtle Josephine Lindquist July 9, 1913 in the Logan LDS Temple. He died September 26, 1933. The second son, Orion Charles Marriott was born December 3, 1896 in Ogden. He married Charlotte Mary Griffin December 23, 1931 in San Francisco. He died January 26, 1983. The third son was Milton Maurice Marriott born July 22, 1902 in Ogden. He married Florence McCarty October 9, 1923. He died July 31, 1944. The three sons mentioned so far all reached maturity. The fourth son was Edward Farley Marriott born September 23, 1901 in Ogden. He died July 5, 1905 of Scarlet Fever. The fifth son was Darius Farley Marriott born July 9, 1906 in Ogden. He died December 22, 1916 of Diphtheria. Then I, Mary Madeleine Marriott, was born October 23, 1909 in Ogden. I married William Vern Harrop June 6, 1934 in Ogden. The marriage was solemnized March 25, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The seventh and last child of my parents is my only sister, Ida Virginia Marriott Kyle who was born January 16, 1912 in Ogden. She married Forrest Alvin Kyle August 20, 1947 in Ogden. Mother and Dad also raised two grandchildren, Richard Lindquist Marriott and Shirley Marriott Murdock. These were two of the three children of my brother, Horace, and his wife, Myrtle. |
