Show funny and sad things in life. Now matter what burdens life placed on Madeleine, she never lost her sense of humor. Kathy has told me she is so thankful that they were given this time together, and she will cherish these memories forever. It is almost impossible to comprehend how much courage was displayed by this loving, frail lady-taking on the care of her beloved Vern through his long-term illness at home knowing that at any time he could leave her, and fighting to survive her own hospitalizations-three in a period just over a year Even though her heart was weak, she exhibited incomparable strong will. This last hospitalization caused Madeleine to endure uncomfortable and sometimes painful procedures one of which would not allow her to speak. You have heard them once before but I think they're quite pertinent to Madeleine: "And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things you do receive. And see that ye have faith, hope, and charity, and then ye will always abound in good works." (Alma 7:23-24) I don't believe that any other written word could better define the |
