Show I have written, you can call me at 393-5946. 19 April 1994 BISHOP and SISTER BOOTHE From Lu and Les Boothe who wrote from Hawaii where they were serving their mission after Vern's passing: "Brother Hales sent us a tape and a program of the funeral. As I sat and listening to the talks and beautiful music, I felt his Spirit was there. So inspirational. It's a rare quality some people have to be able to show humility & love to others without fanfare. Vern truly exemplified those traits & mannerisms. Vern shone as a light of happiness & kindnessalways with a friendly greeting and something special to say. He brightened many days for me with his cheerfulness. The first time I saw you as a family perform at a ward talent show with trumpets and piano and Madeleine with her beautiful dress & parasol, I was impressed and thought how special you all must be." January 1995 EULOGIES PHYLLIS ISAKSON GILLINS (Writing to Lowell and Jerry) "While I was unable to attend her memorial, (Madeleine's service) my thoughts were with you, for my contact with the Marriotts goes back a long time. Your grandmother Marriott and my mother were close friends, and as a child, my mother took me to her home and also the Farley home. To me your mother was always the pretty lady. One day after we had moved to the big house (Isaacson home) on 12th Street and Adams Avenue, Mother fell in her rose garden though Dad had warned her to stay out of the roses since she had been ill and was still weak. Your mother was walking down the street, saw her fall, and rushed across the ditch and street to help her up and comfort her while I at age 13 stood helpless seeing the bloody scratches." December 1997 Some others who mentioned Mother sometime after her passing, expressed these thoughts. BETTY, the appointment secretary for Dr. David W. Richards said: "She is one of those who carried herself as a classy lady." Dr. E. BARRY TOPHAM said: "She was a classy lady". NAOMI CHARD CREAMER said that as a young woman she saw the wedding reception of Madeleine and Vern's and thought that it was so formalthat was the kind that she hoped to have for herself. IDA MARRIOTT KYLE said: "It was love at first sight for Madeleine and Vern. Vern was quite popular. Some of their dating activities were picnics with others in the mountains where they roasted marshmallows over the fire." In Los Angeles, Vern, Madeleine and she (Ida) were going to go to Catalina Island one time in their younger years. Vern had an old car, and they got just about to the dock |
