Show A NEAR CRITICAL EPISODE "About 12 Midnight my heart started beating very hard and rapidly. Vern gave me one tablet medication prescribed by Dr. Olsen. It did not help. Vern insisted he take me to the emergency room. Thank Heavens. He was right! Entered emergency about 1:15 a.m. They injected something in my vein to try to stop the heavy rapid beat. Didn't work. They called Dr. Basil Williams three times: each time they tried something new (1) take a deep breath, hold then bear down-tried a number of times. (2) another shot in vein, (3) pressure and stroking alternately on blood vessels on each side of my neck this side of the earsnothing would help. I was so sick and they were so kind and concerned-a young man attendant took me to the bathroom as bowels moved. I was ash color and then started wrenching. Nothing to come up except occasionally a little bile. So sick that I felt I was going to pass out. Young man stayed with me constantly. I couldn't understand why Vern wasn't with me during a three-hour period. They would not let him come in. Dr. Williams called him on the telephone. About 4:00 a.m. took me up to coronary care where I was put on a monitor. Dr. Williams said I had been a very sick girl. They gave me oxygen steady for three days." April 29, 1979 "This morning they couldn't get my blood pressure. Heart still racing and irregular beat-no relief. I have always called it "fibrillation", but Dr. said it is Paroxysmal Artial Tachycardia (PAT). 12 hours of this since they brought me up to cardiac care. About 1:30 p.m. my heart fell back to slower, more normal, but not smooth rhythm. What a relief physically after all those hours of racing heart, and wrenching nausea with really nothing to come up." April 30, 1979 Had echocardiogram. May 2, 1979 Slight stroke. June 1979 Heart Pacemaker implanted. (It lasted 12 1/2 years) August 17, 1979 PRIESTHOOD BLESSING "Stake President Dorman H. Baird came to the home in the afternoon to administer to me before my carotid artery operation." September 16, 1979 "I entered McKay Dee Hospital on September 17, 1979 and had carotid artery surgery on right side of neck." September 18, 1979 TO THE EAST COAST "Lowell, Ida, Jerry and I left for the East Coast to New York. About 6:30 p.m. traveled by Hertz Rental, a Ford, to the Marriott Saddle Brook Hotel in New Jersey and ate at Allie's there.
