Show the time by 6:45 a.m., and Lowell attends Ben Lomond High School this year until their new junior high is completed next year-so they hold split-shifts at Ben Lomond High this year. Lowell goes to school from 10:45 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. So it works out just fine, with work being at 11:00 a.m. I talked to Dr. Olson again this summer while having my examination and asked if I could work part-time. He said that would be O.K. Said that everything seemed to be all right according to my condition." (To the reader: Madeleine's Mother, Mary Farley Marriott, was at one time a counselor to Sister Jenny Farr Budge when Sister Budge was the Ogden 7th Ward Relief Society President. Patriarch Budge had previously served as Bishop of the 7th Ward some of the time the Marriott family lived at 1208 Porter Avenue). September 23, 1960 PRINCIPAL GLENN THOMAS Madeleine had a great respect for the Principal at Horace Mann. Here is a selection of Christmas card notes that he wrote to Madeleine ranging from December 1961 to December 1972. "I appreciate the devotion you have given to your work and your willingness to do many little extra things this past year. This past year had its rough moments for you, and I do humbly pray that you may enjoy good health during the coming year." "I appreciate the manner in which you get along with those with whom you work. You possess a very pleasing personality. It is no easy task to prepare food for more that 600 children daily on time. I realize that working conditions are not always convenient in our crowded kitchen. Yet, in spite of any inconvenience, you always seem to be cheerful and kind to not only those with whom you work but the children as well." "You're always so considerate. It's a real pleasure to work with you, and I just want to once again thank you for your kindness to me. The kind and friendly manner in which you work with people is impressive. It seems you are always deeply concerned about the comfort and well being of others. The love you have for not only the adults you work with but children as well is always in evidence. I sincerely acknowledge your effort in making our school lunch so successful." "Madeleine, please permit me to tell you that you're the kind of person that is a real pleasure to be associated with. The ladies you work with and the children you serve love you because of your kindness to them. Your efforts in making the meals so delicious is sincerely appreciated." -Glenn Thomas Madeleine to Ida: "Recently, we attended a reception for Dick & Esther Graehl's daughter, Amelia, who is a beautiful blond. It is surprising how you, Dick, and Esther look-right kind of living-and Dick has served so many years as Bishop. Life seems to get more involved & less time to do what we would love to do."
