Show Harrops-maybe not as long as some of the others who have spoken to you today. And Kathy has had, as Jerry mentioned, a very, very special relationship with Madeleine. She put her thoughts together, and I am going to try to explain them to you because she didn't think she could make it through. Around 20 years ago, for some reason that was unknown to us at that time, the good Lord brought us to Utah. About two years after that, He once again directed our lives. This time He directed it to the Harrop family. It was at that time that our three sons started to study piano with Lowell. Our boys Tony, Vince, and Mike were 13, 11, and 10. Madeleine loved hearing them play each week as they came for their lessons. She would sit and listen, and there were times when one was having a lesson the other would be sitting upstairs talking to Vern or Madeleine. Vern and Madeleine attended all the recitals and always made them feel so accomplished and special. I guess that was even more visible when they took us out to have pie and ice cream after the recitals. Her loving care over our children continued over the years by watching them grow, marry, and have children of their own. She became their grandmother always caring and showing concern. This was especially appreciated because they had lost both of their grandmothers when they were very young. Kathy's mother and mine have been gone for some time. It was very easy to adopt her as our mother. She loved and cared for us, and we thank God for her. As a Mother she was a wonderful role model-beaming with joy and enthusiasm. A heart full of friendship to all and unlimited inspiration. She recognized only the positive aspects in life and did so with goodness, kindness, and gentleness. She saw every part of life as something very precious. She felt life was a gift no matter what was handed to you and she made the most of it- even through her illnesses during the past year. Kathy spent two and one half months with Madeleine while she was recuperating from her hospitalization last winter. During her recovery she was always so appreciative and would always greet Kathy each morning with a great big smile. Madeleine had to exercise daily in order to restore her strength in her arms and legs so she could once again walk on her own. She endured this ordeal for months without ever complaining or even more important, giving up. Even in this trying time in her life, Madeleine was a pleasure to be with. She was so delighted with each of her accomplishments no matter how big or small. She made you share in her pleasure. They talked for hours on end learning much about each other and sharing memories past and present. They laughed and cried at |
