Show a member of the Camp Hill Band at the U.S. Naval Training Station at Farragut, Idaho. I moved in January 1943 to 953 5th in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho to be near Vern. Some nights he could stay off base with me. He knew the whole unit would be transferred to Bremerton, Washington, and so about the last of April I moved back home with my parents. I was able to visit Vern at Bremerton once for a couple of days before he was shipped away to Alaska. After my son, Jerry, was born, they asked me to teach temporarily in the Primary in the 7th ward until a permanent teacher could be found. After Vern was honorably released from the U.S. Military Service, we continued to live in the 7th Ward where Vern and I were called to fellowship Adult Aaronic Priesthood members in preparation for them to obtain a temple recommend. Jesse Moore, his sister Brezee and her husband, and Lyman Larsen were members we called on and took to the stake center for religious instruction and socials. One of the joys of the work was seeing Brother Lyman Larsen become active. For years after until his death, he did thousands of names for the dead in the Temple. In the 7th Ward, I was a Relief Society Visiting Teacher. I have continued as a visiting teacher up to 19 93 when Vern's health became so serious he needed my full attention. In the 7th ward my partner was Violet Rawson, who was a delightful and pleasant person. Some of the people I recall we visited were LaVern Farr Heiner, the wife of Bishop Bartley Heiner, the John Farr home on Canyon Road (his daughter was living there), and Betty Overdiek. When Vern returned from serving in World War II, Jerry and I were living with Mother and Dad. Vern had been home only a few days when Orion and Charlotte arrived in Ogden from their home in Millbrae. AN ENJOYABLE JOURNEY ENDED in SADNESS Orion and Charlotte's house was in Millbrae, California. Their yard and garden were showpieces. Orion had always wanted our dad to visit and see the home in Millbrae. Due to Dad's work responsibilities, however, it was not until Dad retired the first of June in 1945 that this became possible. Orion and Charlotte drove to Ogden to take Dad and Mother to visit their granddaughter Arlene Marriott Terry, her husband Joe, and their family on their large farm in Chehalis, Washington. Dad did not feel well while there, but the journey continued to Millbrae along the coast route which provided beautiful scenery. Dad did see Orion's home and yard with its beautiful flowers and shrubs. Dad still did not feel well so a doctor was called who said that Dad's heart |
