Show OBITUARY MADELEINE MARRIOTT HARROP Ogden-Madeleine Marriott Harrop, age 88, of Ogden, surrounded by her sons, passed away December 2, 1997 at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City after a lingering illness. She fought a long and courageous battle until she was called home. Madeleine was born October 23, 1908 in Ogden, the first daughter of Charles A. Marriott and Mary Farley Marriott. She attended Mound Fort Elementary, North Junior, and graduated from Ogden High School in 1928. She was one of the first students to enroll in the first classes offered at Weber College School of Beauticians. She was employed at Darrell's Beauty Shop and later the Superior Beauty School where she was an instructor. She lived in Hollywood, California for a period of time and was a receptionist/secretary for three doctors. She was later employed as a lunchroom worker at Bonneville and Horace Mann Elementary Schools for many years. She was engaged to her sweetheart, W. Vern Harrop for five years prior to their marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. She gave tender and loving care to her husband until he passed away on December 21, 1994. They had been married 59 years. Madeleine's greatest love was her family. She gave loving care to her widowed mother, cared for Vern who died of Alzheimer's, and delighted in raising her two sons. Her sister, brothers, and their families were special to her. She enjoyed the beauties of nature, gardening and writing family histories. She contributed information for three published family histories: The English Ancestry and the American Posterity of Joseph Southwick; The Marriotts: Workers of Flock and Field, and The Malan Book of Remembrance Volumes 1 and 2. She also compiled histories of her father, mother, husband and some about herself. |
