Show their Pioneer heritage. The other day we received a card in the mail from Hermoine Tracy Jex who was author of the big red Marriott books. Her father was Aaron Tracy. In part Hermoine said: "Jacalyn Westergard, my niece, just phoned to say that Madeleine had left us. What a loss to everyone. What a dear one she always was and will be in the angel world. There was no one like her. A real rare choice individual whom one could always depend upon to do what was needed to be done and one who knew what was the right thing to do and say. My Father always said that one of the most important things one can do in this life is to leave a good name. She certainly did that. I just loved her as she was-even if she had not been a contributor to the Marriott book. I enjoyed talking to her, feeling her happy spirit and all of her words and thoughts. Oh, that I could have lived next door to her. Those who are speaking today are highly respected and special people to Madeleine. They have been acquainted with her for a variety of lengths of time and for various reasons. I'm not going to say much about each of the speakers because I think they are going to tell you about how they were acquainted with Mother: Patriarch Leslie Norton is a life-long friend; Joyce Peterson Lowe a relative; Michael Gates, Carol Christensen Stewart, Kathy Sansone and Don Sansone are family friends. In 1922 in the old Ogden 7th Ward on 13th St. near Adams Avenue, Mother's grandfather Isaac Farley's funeral service was held having five speakers and five musical numbers. Today's program perhaps surpasses that. We were almost ready to ask Richard Myers not to pass out the printed program until you were all seated in the congregation at 11:00. Mother's Mother, Mary Farley Marriott, when she was a little girl in West Weber did not enjoy long meetings. One Sunday at Sacrament Service when she thought that the meeting had gone on long enough, she got up, when outside, and held the door closed so that when the meeting was over no one could get out. After awhile, she released the door knob and than ran and hid in a ditch so that nobody could find her. So if we see today anyone of you leaving before this funeral service is over, we will know where you got the idea and what your intentions might be. We wish to thank those who have and will participate: Mother's nephew, Brent Marriott, gave the prayer in the family gathering and Ron Hales, our home teacher, will give the prayer at the graveside. We thank the Bishopric for the use and arrangements of the meetinghouse and thank the Relief Society for their various acts of service. We will continue as the printed program is outlined. |
