November 26, 1976 To the reader: One of Madeleine's health problems was stated in a letter from Dr. Basil Williams: "To whom it may concern:...an enlarged right ventricle and episodes of tachycardia (paroxysmal artial tachycardia) and that she developed an allergic reaction to Promestryl and cannot tolerate Quinidine. Norpace has been unsuccessful in terminating episodes. She takes a continuous does of Lanoxin, .25 mgs. daily." May 12, 1978 Lowell recorded this incident: "When Mother was in the waiting room at Ogden Clinic one time, a gentleman came up to Mother and Dad, introduced himself to them as Richard Fleming, and said that he had delivered mail to 1208 Porter Avenue 40 years ago. He said: 'I remember Grandma Mary as I called her. She was one of the most special, wonderful people I have ever met. She used to look forward to me coming each day. I would step in for a minute or two and enjoyed visiting with her. I remember you, Madeleine, and your sister, Ida. You are wonderful people-so warm and friendly. I've enjoyed dancing to your (Vern's) music and have followed you over the years.' In being introduced to Lowell, he said: 'You look like a fine young man-I know you are because of the wonderful heritage you have come from. The Marriotts were great people!" |
