Show She has a lot of interesting material on the Edward Farley Family who came from Monroe County, West Virginia and settled in Illinois in the Nauvoo area where Edward Farley held title to 320 acres of land. The Edward Farley Sr. Family was the first generation of our Farley ancestors to become members of The Christ of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." February 27, 1984 "Vern and I were looking for a home for Charlotte to buy. My brother Orion had passed away in January 1983, and Charlotte's family felt that this was the time for her to move back to Ogden after over 40 years in California. One place we looked at was our former canyon home, 311 Ogden Canyon, which had been built by Orion and Charlotte and where we had lived for the first nine years of our marriage. A new double-glass window had been installed in the front room. There were now sliding windows, a built-in stove, dish washer, electric heating, and 736 square feet. Insulation had been put over the wood exterior and aluminum siding added. There are two bedrooms with one of them in the basement. Asking price $69,000. Orion had offered the home to us for $3,000 in the 1940's but we could not afford that." (The house in later years sold for about $139,000 and an asking price even later was under $199,000.) October 19, 1984 TRAVELING EAST AGAIN "Ida, Lowell, Jerry, and I flew from Salt Lake City on a 2 hour 5 minute flight to St. Louis arriving there 12:30 p.m. Impressive murals in the terminal. At 1:15 p.m. we left for a flight to Philadelphia. Vern at home again this trip-had dance jobs and was playing in bands at the Golden Hours Center for activities there." September 17, 1985 "Left the Marriott City Line Hotel at 12:00 noon for historic sites. The Second Bank of the U.S., later the U.S. Custom House for 100 years, now is an art museum-one of only four portrait museums in the U.S.A. A bust wood carving of George Washington and a painting of Washington on his horse were impressive. Saw the handwritten Declaration of Independence that was printed in Philadelphia two weeks earlier than the one in the National Archives in D. C. Saw the Old City Hall, Toured Independence Hall. (2/3rd of the U. S. Parks are of an historic nature). Saw the Liberty Bell. At one time, Philadelphia was the capitol of the country. Saw Betsy Ross home." September 18, 1985 "Went up in the Philadelphia City Hall Tower 40 stories high. What a view of the city in all directions. To the east is the Delaware River. A statue of William Penn is on top of the tower. We saw Mayor Wilson Goode pass by us in City Hall. We attended the Gala Opening of the Academy of Performing Arts Orchestra with guest violinist Isaac Stern-terrific!" September 19, 1985 "Left Philadelphia about noon for Delaware to see the estate of Alfred du Pont. We were lost and realized we would be too late for the last tour. Lowell called along the way and told the tour officer we were lost. They waited for us. The |
