September 20, 1985 "From Maryland to MonticelloThomas Jefferson's home." September 21, 1985 "Visited Mt. Vernon, Washington's home, where Lowell and Ida bought beautiful dishes. In Arlington, visited Buddy "F" Ferrin our relative. He invited us to dinner, but we had already eaten. He served us cake and ice cream. Visited the Washington Temple Visitor's Center." September 22, 1985 "Called Vern from the Marriott Twin Bridges Motel. (We called him every few nights)" September 23, 1985 "Building Manger, Ed Francis, of Marriott Corporation took us on a complete tour of Marriott Headquarters." September 24, 1985 "Returned on same flight as Elder Ezra Taft Benson, President of the Quorum of The Twelve and Sister Benson. Spoke with them before the flight. He had been to Italy to organize the first LDS Stake there. Lowell said to President Benson that he had served a mission in Switzerland and France. Elder Benson said: 'I can tell that was aa while ago by the length of your hair!' And, then Elder Benson said:' 'Just kidding'. Arrived home on September 25, and Ida flew back to Bakersfield on September 27, 1985." OUR HERITAGE Madeleine to her cousin Dora Gibson Grob: "What I wanted to write to you about was our mothers, their sisters and brother Simeon, and their half-brother Edward Farley who was also their cousin (Aunt Emily Malan Farley's son by Isaac Robeson Farley). I am so happy and feel so blessed to have known and loved each one of them. I was always so impressed with their love, affection, and respect for one another and the good times they enjoyed together. They grew up in humble circumstances with little schooling, but their Mother (Madeleine Malan Farley) had an excellent education and taught them well. All of the sisters could sew very well and some did beautiful embroidery work. Your mother (Jennie) was an expert operating a hemstitching machine as well as in sewing. She passed on many of her talents she developed during her lifetime. She showed much interest in all Mother's children and I recall her special kindness and concern for my brother Horace."
