Show Jackson of Salt Lake City (a leader in the United Church of Christ Congregational) to visit Mother. Teddy told Susan that Mother was the Neighborhood Angel. Also, Father Pechitelli of the Catholic Church, a good friend of the Sansones, came faithfully several times a week for all of the time that Mother was in the hospital to spend time with her. Mother appreciated the visits of each of these people, and she was comforted by the Priesthood blessings of the Elders who came to the hospital to administer. Mother was not one to draw attention to herself. From the newspaper obituary some of her accomplishments were listed. In great part, the loving care that Kathy Sansone voluntarily gave Mother a year ago November to mid-March this year (1997) is one of the major reasons that Mother was in good health until about mid-September. There were several events this year that were especially significant to Madeleine. We were glad that she could enjoy and participate in these. She spent much time in working on the life story of Dad and her own life story. She said that it was hard to write about herself, and she assisted in Ida's life story which was published this year. In our ward and stake sesquicentennial programs, RoLayne Staffanson featured scenes of Mother's grandparents, Madeleine Malan and Isaac Farley. Joyce Lowe portrayed Madeline Malan in one of these scenes, and Mother enjoyed that presentation here in the ward. In April, Mother was photographed for an article in the Standard-Examiner on the Utah Pioneers, and Mother related some of the experiences of her two great grandmothers as they crossed the plains. Mother attended the Malan and the Marriott Family reunions this summer and Mother and Ida (with John Creamer and Arthur Marriott) were honored as being the only four living grandchildren of original pioneers Teresa Southwick and John Marriott. Mother submitted information and photographs on her two grandmothers, Teresa and Madeleine, for inclusion in the forthcoming Daughters of Utah Pioneers' book "Women of Faith and Fortitude". Madeleine believed in Heavenly Father saying, for example, when she would see the beauty of a flower: "How can anyone even doubt the existence of God." She was so grateful to the Lord, Jesus Christ, for His life and teachings. Mother benefitted from the blessings of the Holy Spirit. Mother was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She endured to the end. Mother was so proud of her Pioneer heritage. She did much to preserve it. She was especially pleased that a younger generation Kayleen Creamer Black, Joyce Peterson Lowe, Carol Christensen Stewart, Scott Marriott, Debbie Jensen Williams, and Randy Murdock also treasure |
