Show MIKELLE CROOKSTON, Invocation Our kind and gracious Heavenly Father, we are indeed grateful for this opportunity this day to come and honor and celebrate in the life of Madeleine Marriott Harrop. We feel extremely blessed to be a part of her life and to know this dear, sweet woman. She was truly an example of dedication and determination-a woman who enriched our lives so deeply. We are thankful that her trials in this life have ended, and we find comfort with the knowledge that we have through living the gospel that Madeleine is with those who have passed on before her. Please comfort Lowell and Jerry and other members of the family at this time that they too may find peace and strength in this knowledge. This is our prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. PATRIARCH LESLIE NORTON, Remarks Once in a while a friend is found Who is a friend right from the start. Once in a while a friendship is made That really warms the heart. Once in a while a friendship is formed To last a lifetime through. It really does happen, just once in a while, It happened to me and you. Well how long do we go back. It so happens that the Nortons were converts in England and right after World War I 1918 moved to Ogden, Utah, on 12 Street, 7th Ward. In 1919 Mother had twins who were totally unexpected. Sister Marriott learned of this, being in the new Relief Society Presidency as I remember. That very day she made sure there were plenty of clothes and necessities for that extra baby. Well, that's how it all started. Mother thought so much of the Marriotts. In our early teens Madeleine and I taught Sunday School. I think we were around 13 or 14-that's pretty young but we used to compare notes once and awhile and through that little relationship our friendship really grew. Then we grew and grew to the time we started to date. Madeleine, of course, was going with Vern, and this is what she said in her journal: "Vera Harper was one of the girls in our group who lived close to my home. She had a date with Leslie Norton. We met as a group to attend a dance and exchange dances one with another, and we had a great time." I might say at this juncture that in those days when we would go to a dance before the music started, the girls would chat together, and we boys would go out with our program which had about ten places on it.
