Earth Science Teaching Minor • Advisor: Dr. Richard Ford 626-6942 • Grade Requirements: A grade of "C-" or better in courses used toward the minor. • Credit Hour Requirements: Minimum of 20 credit hours in Geosciences courses. Students who select the Earth Science Teaching Minor must satisfy the Teacher Education admission and licensure requirements (see Department of Teacher Education). This minor is best for students majoring in another area of science or science teaching, as one year of chemistry and one year of physics are required to obtain Earth Science teaching certification in the state of Utah. Geosciences Departmental Honors To earn Departmental Honors in Geosciences, a student must: • Maintain a departmental GPA of 3.30, and an overall GPA of 3.30 • Fulfill all the requirements for a geology, applied environmental geoscience, or Earth science teaching major. • Complete a research project (GEO 4800 or GEO 4970) with a grade of A. • Present the project at a national or regional conference, or the Weber State Undergraduate Research Symposium. Volunteer at least 12 hours of community service in a geoscience-related educational outreach program, such as COS Science Saturdays or National Earth Science Week activities. Students who have not completed their General Education requirements are encouraged to take Honors General Education classes. 1. How to apply for Departmental Honors in Geosciences: Students must apply to be awarded departmental honors and be cleared by both the Geosciences Department and the Honors Program. 2. Complete the entrance application form for Departmental Honors with the departmental advisor and submit it to the Honors Program (2nd floor of the Stewart Library). 3.
