Show LETRS based spelling curriculum 82 irst Grade Review: Consonant digraphs: sh, ch, F wh, th, ng Spelling List: sh ch wh th ng wish chop what that king shot chat when path song Day 1 Introduction to consonant digraphs (5 minutes): A consonant digraph is when two or more letters team up to make one sound such as sh, ch, wh, th and ng. These all are two consonants that team up together to make one sound. Let's practice making those sounds: sh= /sh/, ch= /ch/, wh=/wh/, he pronunciation of the digraph wh in English has changed over time, and T still varies today between different regions and accents. In American English, the h is silent, so wh is pronounced /w/. They will need a black and red writing tool. The teacher will guide the students on the whiteboard or smartboard with corresponding colored writing tools. Students will do this on the 3x5 Word Sort table found in the resources. Have students write consonants in black and vowels in red on the table. On the first column write the vowel sh and under that write the words wish and shot. On the second column write ch and under that write the words chop and chat. On the third column write wh and under that write the words what and when. On the fourth column write th and under that write the words that and path. On the fifth column write ng and under that write the words king and song.
