The spelling that represents those sounds are /a/=a, /r/=r, /ow/=ou, /n/=n, /d/=d. 2. caught= has three sounds: /c/ /ŏ/ /t/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /c/=c, /ŏ/=augh, /t/=t. Draw a heart on the ough. 3. thank= has four sounds: /th/ /ā/ /n/ /k/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /th/=th, /ā/=a, /n/=n, /k/=k. Draw a heart above the a. pelling dictation (2 minutes):The teacher will saythe following sentence S out loud and the students will write it down. The students will spell the best to their abilities, including the correct capitalization and punctuation. Afterwards the teacher will write the sentence on the board. The students will correct any mistakes they made, including capitalization and punctuation with a different colored pen. “I played around the house all day.” Day 3 S ort pictures & words into y to i or keep y sort (5 minutes): We are only focussing on six spelling words that have the change y for I for a suffix addition but there are many more words with the change y for I for a suffix addition. Let's sort the pictures & words. Pictures help students to connect words with meaning. Students will cut and paste pictures/words into the correct sort. Irregular word practice (5 minutes): Write the three irregular words. Watercolors and q-tip to trace over the letters of the spelling words. They also need to use at least one of the irregular words in each sentence as well. Have students highlight, circle or underline the spelling words they used. Students may illustrate a quick picture for each of their sentences. Have students share their sentences and illustrations with a partner. |
