Show LETRS based spelling curriculum 371 Irregular word practice (5 minutes):Have studentspush the pop-it fidget toy to count the sounds of the three irregular words. The teacher will first write the sounds and then write the spelling that represents the sound in circles on a whiteboard. The circles represent each pop-it pushed. When the sounds do not match the spelling, we must remember the letter by heart. Teacher will write a heart symbol above that letter to remind students. 1. move= has four sounds: /m/ /ū/ /v/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /m/=m, /ū/=o, /v/=ve Draw a heart above the o. 2. often= has four sounds:/ō/ /f/ /t/ /ĕ/ /n/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /ō/=o, /f/=f, /t/=t, /ĕ/=e /n/=n. 3. heard= has three sounds: /h/ /er/ /d/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /h/=h, /er/=ear, /d/=d. Draw a heart above the ear. pelling dictation (2 minutes):The teacher will saythe following sentence S out loud and the students will write it down. The students will spell the best to their abilities, including the correct capitalization and punctuation. Afterwards the teacher will write the sentence on the board. The students will correct any mistakes they made, including capitalization and punctuation with a different colored pen. “I have a huge dog.” Day 3 S ort pictures & words into -ve, -ge and -dge sort (5 minutes): We are only focussing on six spelling words that have the -ve, -ge and -dge words but there are many more words with the-ve, -ge and -dge. Let's sort the pictures & words. Pictures help students to connect words with meaning. Students will cut and paste pictures/words into the correct sort. Irregular word practice (5 minutes): Write the three irregular words. Use dot markers to trace over the letters of the spelling words.
