Show A Glimpse of Austria Lieber Karl: In three days we shall have our annuel school excursion to the cliffs of the Danube at Fussdorf. This will be the biggest school event of the year, and so, of course, we are eagerly awaiting the day. Cur class has had the good fortune to get Herr Doktor Wanzenheim, the natural history teacher, to be the overseer on the trip. As you know, he is the most congenial of our professors here' at the Lernhardt Realgymnasium. He at times will even say "hello" to us when we meet him in the hall, which I think is quite remarkable. Gerhardt Schmutzschichten, whose father teaches minerology at the Loffelputzer Akadamie for Girls, said that these girls are to make the same excursion as we, and furthermore, that they will travel on the same train with us. How is that for a stroke of good fortune? This will make the excursion twice as enjoyable, because it is very seldom that we even see a girl around our school Our home professor said yesterday that every third boy might bring along a friend. All drew numbers. I got a number divisible by three and con¬sequently a friend. Naturally you know that Saturday is a church holiday, and there will be no school for you, so if you can possibly come, we of the class should be overjoyed with the prospect of your company. The train fare is specially reduced for us: three Schillings (60c) round trip. We leave from the Franz Josef Station at 6:30 Saturday morning. We won't need to worry much about eating, since there will be too much to do. You might "bring along a few rolls with cheese and wurst, a bag of apples, a few cookies, a chocolate bar, and some dried prunes with a loaf of bread to chew on. I am bringing a whole sack of tangerines for the two of us. Then if you get hungry we can always stop at one of the many inns around those parts for more. I'll be expecting you at the station, then, Sat¬urday morning at 6:30. Come early and we can get a seat by the window in the last car. We won't get so much smoke there. Your sincere friend, Ernst Eisler |
