Show Honor Here! as far as our athletes are concerned, we bestow plenty of praise and honor upon them, "but when it comes to praising other students who bring back the pen¬nants to Ogden High, we take their efforts for granted. The other day I overheard a convesation, quite by accident, which ran something like this: "What good does it do for any¬one to do anything in this school; you never get attention!" "I know it. You have to be an athlete to be anything in this school." And so today we're going to give credit to those who de s erve to receive it and who have been slighted this year. The trouble is in this school we take the ser¬vices rendered us entirely too lightly! Let's put more accent on these activities and not quite so much on athletics. The first field we look into is the music department. Although our A Cappella Choir received quite a bit of attention, the rest of the department has been almost utterly neglected. According to Mr. Hansen, who says "I wish i could mention them all," these students lead in his classes: Constance Ford is "the" out¬standing student and although the fact that she is editor of the News Notes is well known, we don't seem to consider that she can be good in other fields, too. She is concert mistress in the orchestra, having played a piano and a violin concerto (this is a rare feat). She is the main accompanist for the school and for the orchestra, as well as a member of the A Capella Choir. Eugene Brough: Upon Eugene's shoulders rest the most important job in the school. He is band leader; he plays a string bass in the orchestra; he plays a sausa- phone in the band, and is bass voice in a mixed quartet. Also, he is winner of the piano contest for the second time. Both times the judges agreed unanimously. Mack Cook: Captain of band and lead trombonist; he has won first place for three times in contest. He represented us at Provo, Price and Logan in previous years and will represent us in Hyrum this year. He is tenor for a mixed quartet. Kenneth Kushier: Outstanding violinist in the state. He recent¬ly entered a national contest sponsored by Yick's Chemical Company and retched semi finals. This indeed is a great honor. Outstanding coronets are: Paul Cowley, Desmond Norton, Don Prout, George Oxnam, Deibert Brown. Outstanding vocalists: Hex Firth, tenor, who also -plays violin; Hendrina Evertson, soprano—"one of the best voices we have ever had." Barbara Hassing, soprano, "outstanding work". Joyce Wilson, contralto, who is contralto in mixed quartet and |
