Show LETRS based spelling curriculum 260 Irregular word practice (5 minutes):Have studentspush the pop-it fidget toy to count the sounds of the three irregular words. The teacher will first write the sounds and then write the spelling that represents the sound in circles on a whiteboard. The circles represent each pop-it pushed. When the sounds do not match the spelling, we must remember the letter by heart. Teacher will write a heart symbol above that letter to remind students. hrough and threw are homonyms. Through means to go from one side to T another. Threw means to propel an object through the air. 1. through = has three sounds: /th/ /r/ /ū/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /th/=th, /r/=r, /ū/=ough. 2. threw= has three sounds:/th/ /r/ /ū/.. The spelling that represents those sounds are /th/=th, /r/=r, /ū/=ew. 3. almost= has four sounds: /a/ /l/ /m/ /ō/ /s/ /t/. The spelling that represents those sounds are /a/=a, /l/=l, /m/=m /ō/=o, /s/=s, /t/=t . Draw a heart above the a and the o. pelling dictation (2 minutes):The teacher will saythe following sentence S out loud and the students will write it down. The students will spell the best to their abilities, including the correct capitalization and punctuation. Afterwards the teacher will write the sentence on the board. The students will correct any mistakes they made, including capitalization and punctuation with a different colored pen. “There was chaos at school today.” Day 3 S ort pictures & words into the ch /k/ and ch /sh/ groups (5 minutes): We are only focussing on six spelling words that have the ch /k/ and ch /sh/ words but there are many more words with ch /k/ and ch /sh/. Let's sort the pictures & words. Pictures help students to connect words with meaning. Students will cut and paste pictures/words into the correct sort. Irregular word practice (5 minutes): Write the three irregular words. Use glue and sequence or other craft to trace over the letters of the spelling words. Say the irregular words in sentences. pelling dictation (2 minutes):The teacher will saythe following sentence S out loud and the students will write it down.
