Show LETRS based spelling curriculum 298 ighlight, circle or underline the spelling words they used. Students may h illustrate a quick picture for each of their sentences. Have students share their sentences and illustrations with a partner. I spy with the oi and oy word list (5 minutes):Havestudents play an I spy game with the are oi and oy word list from the Spelling Dictionary. For example: Penny, dime, nickel or quarter. Answer: coin. Students may do this in partners or small groups. The teacher and students may go over all the words on the list before the game. After students guess a word correctly, they will spell the word out loud. pelling dictation (2 minutes):The teacher will saythe following sentence S out loud and the students will write it down. The students will spell the best to their abilities, including the correct capitalization and punctuation. Afterwards the teacher will write the sentence on the board. The students will correct any mistakes they made, including capitalization and punctuation with a different colored pen. “The milk is almost spoiled.” Day 5 S pelling sort (5 minutes):Cut and sort the wordsthe students wrote in red and black from day 1. These can be sorted into the three categories as well as alphabetic order or other creative ways. Have students pull out 2-4 of the spelling words that are most challenging for them to spell for the next activity. pelling review with multisensory activities (7 minutes): S Students will use letter cards, letter magnets, letter stamps, letter stickers, or other tangible manipulatives such as salt, sand, gel, or technology to practice all the spelling words together as a class or group. The teacher will help guide activity by listening to the sounds and finding the letters that spell the sound. This will give students different multisensory learning opportunities to practice spelling words. pelling Test (5 minutes):Test students on all 9spelling words.Teacher will S say the word, then say the word in a sentence for context, then say the word again. Students will write the word to the best of their abilities. FInd the spelling test templates in the resources. One template includes a pretest and post test and one includes two spelling tests per sheet. Extra C reative Writing:Encourage students to write a shortstory or poem using oi and oy word lists from the Spelling Dictionary.
