Show SMOKING (cont'd) Tobacco is not a mathema¬tician, but it can add to your nervous troubles; it can sub¬tract from your physical energy; it can multiply your aches and pains; it can divide your mental powers; it can take interest from your work and discount your chances of success. Bob Smith OLD CLOTHES WEEK Come on, kids, show your sense of humor! In this sober¬ing atmosphere of school we have one week in nine months to be really comfortable and relaxed. we may dress as wailing babies or as educated persons anything for a change! Girls may show their charms in un-harmonizing color schemes, and boys are given a chance to show their manly physique. Next week is the time! June Spong THE SENIORS' PROMISE Last semester we juniors had one meeting at which we elected officers who have been making fine figureheads of themselves. At the first of the year they had a student body campaign, and the prize was (supposedly) a party to be given by the losing party. We juniors won that contest, but where did it get us? We have been deprived from that which is rightly ours. It is time Carl Yarrington and CO. (meaning Ray Pierson end Wayne Boyle) realize their duty and and see that the Seniors keep their word. It is Clair Boyle's duty to see that we juniors get what is coming to us. We haven't had the party yet and time marches on! Ida Rose Langford WHISTLING SOULS I am innocently walking down the hall during noon hour. The boy in front of me turns around and stares at me, laughs and walks on. What's the matter with the fresh thing? Gott im Himme! I'm whistl-ing! And it isn't long until I am industriously at my job again. However, I know from observation that I'm not alone in this game. There are others who receive un-asked-for stares just because their musical ability happens to come from between pursed lips. It is easy to whistle, and it may be the bars on the windows that brings forth the "Prisoner's Song"; it may be the beautiful girls that inspire "Only a Bird in a Gilded Cage"; and you know, there are possibilities of "A Gold Mine in the Sky" with a test on the waiting list. Teachers mark you; students point you out; you are laughed at, complimented and Quizzed. You are branded. No one offers any under¬standing'. "Whistling girls, crow¬ing hens!" So what! Meowing dogs and singing men! Ruth Myers |
