Show Dovie Juanita Miles Goodwin WASHINGTON TERRACE Dovie Juanita Miles Goodwin, 99, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 in Washington Terrace. She was born March 21, 1908, in Denton, TX, the daugh- | a e ter of Benjamin § R. and Josephine Tate Miles. She received a bachelor's degree in a math from Wi- fe ley College in jaa Marshall, TX. i She was initiated in Psi Sigma Chapter in San Antonio, TX, in 1942. She was a charter member of the Beta Omega Chapter in El Paso and Ogden Alumnae Chapter in Ogden, UT. She had been a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for 62 years. She moved from Texas to Utah as a USO Director. She met Roy A Goodwin in 1945 and married him in Las Vegas, NV; together they had a daughter and a son. Dovie Goodwin taught in elementary. and junior high schools, and tutored high school students in math for 29 years. She was one of the first black teachers in Utah and was Teacher of the Year in 2006. She received the Red Apple Award from the Retired School Employees Association. Dovie was an advisor to the youth group of the NAACP and also the treasurer for 45 years “and she refused to use a calculator’. She was a very faithful Christian woman and attended the Wasatch Church of Christ. She has served on many boards in the community and state and was a Grand Marshal for the Washington Terrace Pioneer Parade. Dovie Goodwin is survived by her daughter Roietta Fulgham, Citrus Heights, CA; two grandchildren, Kendall Youngblood (Jill) So. Jordan, UT and Keia Fulgham, Glendale, CA; three great-grandchildren; nieces, Sandra (Danny) Mack and Wilma Miles; two nephew's. Monroe (Sylvia) Miles and Archie (Margaret) Woodards and a host of people who referred to her as “Mom” or “Sister” or “Friend”, roughout the world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her son Miles “Tyrone” Goodwin; four sisters and one brother. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary Chapel. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 9th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday prior to the service from'12. to ! 12:45 p.m. Interment, Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
