Show Irene was a great cook. She'd cook up a big meal, family and friends would come together and enjoy as life played itself out. You could find her on many days sitting on her porch for hours, discussing current events or memorable moments with her family and friends. In addition to family gatherings and bingo, Irene enjoyed traveling on occasion. Whether it was California, Maryland, Las Vegas or Portland, she’d visit her large extended family all across the country. MAMA Irene enjoyed a bond with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made everyone feel special. As a young woman she liked to dance and as grandma she tried to teach her | grandchildren how to do the Charleston and those dances from her youth. What fun! lrene’s most fulfilling job had always been as a mother in every sense of the work. She was a nurturer. Hers was a long journey, filled with family, friends and memories over | her 84 years. Irene Turner was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. Even during her illness, her smile overshadowed her pain. Irene had a good heart and spirit. Ms. Irene was very independent and kept her since of self and never complained. Irene felt that she had plenty to be thankful for and that God had been good to her. Irene Bessie Bradley Turner is remernbered as a loving and caring, petite woman with a giant heart. She never bit her tongue but was a Supportive mother who encouraged family and friends in their successes and helped them over the rough spots of life. Irene Turner lived and enjoyed a full life. She was respected and loved by her family and community. “Mama” with her giving heart and youthful spirit will be missed and never forgotten. Irene Bradley Turner was preceded in death by: her husband LaSalle Turner (1978); her parents Leola “Big Mama” Allen (1984) and Lucious “Big Daddy” Bradley (1978); her son Lonny (1991) and daughter Sharon (1950); her brother John Lee Dizer (1981); her sister Coreen Bradley Shelton (1983); her best friend Ida Mae Johnson Baxter (1989). To cherish her memory, Irene leaves a full family tree; her 7 children Clarence, Charles. Adolph, BernaDean (Thomas), LaSalle (Martha), Lizette (Charles) of Utah, Lucy _ (Sherman) of Ohio and step-son Charles Crowley of Mississippi; her 20 grandchildren Carmalisa (Virginia ), Maurice (& Karen of Minnesota), Veronica (& Michael of California), Lisa (& Eric of California), LeTonya (California), Nathaniel Sr. (Arizona), Troy (& Lisa of Utah), LeTonya (Utah), Kimberlene (California), Shauna (Nevada), Anthony (California), Raquel (Utah), Leon (& Monica of Utah), Jimmy (Utah), Efrem (Utah), Natasha (Louisiana), Lucinda (Utah), Tamiria (Utah), Shamonique (Utah), Earl (Utah); 44 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.; and many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. | Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church, 2935 Lincoln Ave., Ogden. Friends may cali on Friday, December 19" at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden from 6 to 8 p.m. | |
