17 March, Tuesday. The National Womens Relief Society of the Latterday Saints church was organized one hundred years ago today in Nauvoo Ill. by Joseph Smith the prophet with 18 members. Today it has 100,000 active members. The centennial is being celebrated in every ward of the church by splendid programmes. I attended a fine play & hr. of fine entertainment in my ward yesterday and was honered to give the closing prayer. Today 5 & 24 Wards of Mt Ogden Stake met togather. Same programme was given in the 12 & given today. Myrene went. Oertel went to 4th Ward of Ogden Stake where she is a Board member Myrene is a visiting teacher in Mt Ogden Stake. Avon is a class teacher in Oakdale Calif. Ward. I served in Mt Ogden Stake as Pres for 15 yr & 7 yr in Presidency of Weber Stake I saw Cleone at hospital some better. JOHN OF ARDERNE (1307 to 1380?) This first of educated surgeons in England of whom we have knowledge got his training as an army surgeon during the Hundred Years War. His illustrated manuscripts were an innovation in surgery, and he was first to teach surgery by the illustration of living pathology as he saw it. Womens Army Bill Passes WASHINGTON, March 17 A bill establishing a womens army auxiliary corps of volunteers to take over many of the military forces behind the lines assignments was passed Tuesday by the house, despite protests that it was silly and an affront to American manhood. The measure was sent to the senate on a roll call vote of 249 to 86 after Representative Edith Nourse Rogers (R), Massachusetts, its author, took the floor to remind her colleagues of the heroism of women in the nations early days, and to assert that those of modern time were as willing to make sacrifices for their country. Play Included in Centennial Event The L. D. S. Mount Ogden and Highland ward Relief societies will meet jointly Tuesday at two p. m. A play will be presented, commemorating the centennial. It will be a review of the first organization in Nauvoo, Ill. The singing mothers will accompany the play, and Mrs. Mary Campbell will sing a solo, Charity. Mrs. Rosina Nicholas, a violinist, will play the prelude with Lorna Draper accompanying. Refreshments will be served.
