Show 10 August, Monday. Margret Simpson came back today. Had a letter from Lucile saying she was happy to come West and would come in Nov. Oertel, Cleone, Ezra & Hellen Moyle called. TESTIMONIAL TO AESCULAPIUS After the preliminary bath and other measures, the patient in an Aesculapian temple spent a night in the abaton or temple dormitory, awaiting the healing dream. For instance, the god came at night to a man suffering from dropsy, cut off his head and hung him up to drain. When he awoke, his head was again in place and his dropsy gone. Payment often consisted of the promise of a good testimonial as well as the usual votive offering. Tuesday, August 11.
