PHYSICIAN OF LOMBARDY This trailing black toga with open sleeves was worn by Lombardy physicians of the fifteenth century. In winter it was made of cloth, velvet or damask; and in summer of very beautiful moire of Florence or of camlet. Underneath this garment was worn another of silk which was held together by a silken belt that fell into the knees. Stockings were of cloth or silk; sandals of cloth or velvet. The bonnet was made of silken canvas or pleated velvet. Jurists, as well as doctors, wore this impressive costume. Saturday, November 21.
