Show COLOGNE LOSS IS TREMENDOUS Vast Property in Ruins, Schools, Museums Still Burning STOCKHOLM, June 5 Tremendous damage inflicted by Britains first 1000 plane raid Saturday night ruined the central district of Cologne and reached into the suburbs, destroying all property of 10,000 persons, said a German dispatch quoted today by the Stockholm newspaper, Dagens Nyheter. From the bomb damaged office of the Koelische (Cologne) Zeitung (and through the nazi censorship) came the report, written Wednesday by Franz Berger: To all who surveyed the attacked city May 31 it was instantly clear that they had taken farewell of their Cologne. Destruction is tremendous everywhere. Destroyed buildings, damaged schools, churches, hospitals, museums, monuments, many warehouses and shops are still burning. Whole quarters of the town are empty, the windows in ruins. |
