GEORGES MARESCHAL (1658 to 1736) With the foundation of the Academy of Surgery and the ordinance of Louis XV (1743) dissociating surgeons from barbers, the social and scientific standing of the eighteenth century French surgeons was placed on a level with the doctors. Georges Mareschal and Francois de la Peyronie created the Academy, and the latter inspired the King to grant the ordinance. Mareschal was surgeon and adviser to Louis XIV and later also to Louis XV. Wednesday, April 29. Spent some time down town. Dr & I had dinner with Dr Ezra & Gladys Rich at their Canon home. Food prices frozen and rents restored by U.S. Gov.
