7 June, Sunday. Dr & I attended Sunday School. Zula Cole spent the day with us. We had dinner at Juniors and spent afternoon calling on Oertel, Cleone, & Myrene. Spent evening at home. NIKOLAI IVANOVICH PIROGOFF (1810 TO 1881) Without exception, eminent historians acclaim Nikolai Pirogoff the greatest Russian surgeon and one of the outstanding military surgeons of all time. His field service included the campaigns the Caucasus and the Crimean War. Among his noteworthy accomplishments are: the method of foot amputation bearing his name; an atlas of 230 plates in which were first and profusely used frozen sections in anatomic illustration; the Treatise Military Surgery. Monday, June 8. Dr and I drove to Salt Lake City to be in attendance at the Charter Meeting and banquet given by the Alumni of University in honor of fifty years anniversary of The Emeritus Club of the Alumni Association had its orign in the University of Deseret. The historic first Alumni gathering took place at the home of Dr John R. Park All studants attending previous to 1892 who were present were presented with a Certificate as a Charter Member of the Emeritus Club of the Utah Alumni Association. Dr Edward I.
