Show 3 July, Friday. Dee Hospital Dr recd a book from Thair showing the Army set up at Camp Grant where he is now stationed as a Major & is training batallions of Medical & other men in Army hospital set up. A fine picture is shown of him also a copy of his greetings to the 29 Batallion at the conclusion of the course. JAMES MARKHAM AMBLER (1848 TO 1881) The call of duty was stronger in James Ambler than love of life and so, by remaining with the sick and dying of the ill fated Jeannette expedition, he too perished. His was the first Arctic expedition in which scurvy did not occur, and he anticipated the discovery of vitamin C by stating that a factor in certain foods prevented this disease. Ambler was Passed Assistant Surgeon of the U. S. Navy. Saturday, July 4. Hospital. Think I am pretty sick have private nurses on the job all the time.
