Show Marriott-Slaterville City Elna Arbor Day Official Proclamation-no. 2009-01 Whereas, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and Whereas, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than one million trees in nebraska, and arbor day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and Whereas, trees reduce the erosion by wind and water of our precious topsoil, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide wildlife habitat; and Whereas, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for fires, and countless other amenities; and Whereas, trees in the city increase property values, enhance economic value, and beautify the community; and whereas, trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal; and Whereas, Marriott-Slaterville City seeks to renew its Tree City USA with the National Arbor Day Foundation in 2008; now, therefore, it is hereby proclaimed, by the authority vested in me, keith h. Butler, as Mayor of Marriott-Slaterville City, that April 25,2009, is designated as Arbor Day in Marriott-Slaterville City, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to SUPPORT EFFORTS TO PROTECT OUR TREES AND WOODLANDS, AND IT IS ALSO PROCLAIMED THAT MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HONORS ARBOR DAY BY PLANTING TREES IN THE MUNICIPAL GARDENS BEHIND THE MUNICIPAL COMPLEX AND RECOGNIZES THE TIME VOLUNTEERED BY RESIDENTS WHO PARTICIPATE FN THIS EVENT. Further, I urge all citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the WELL-BEING OF THIS AND FUTURE GENERATIONS. Dated this 31 st day of March, 2009.
