Show Marriott-Slaterville City History June 2009 City residents are fortunate in having accredited volunteers working on the park behind the city office. At the City Council Meeting on June 18, 2009, Regina Smout was presented a USU Extension Master Tree Steward Certificate by USU Horticulturist for Weber County, Jerry Goodspeed. Forestry volunteers have worked hard on the landscaping for this beautiful park which is being developed. All the hard work is greatly appreciated by everyone who has watched the progress. Weber State University has begun a project of digitizing the nine volume yearly Marriott-Slaterville History and the 15 volume Monthly Histories. Several oral history video interviews and historic photographs are also included. The project began June 8, 2009, and will require approximately six months to complete (estimated date December 15, 2009). DVDs will be given to the city. The digitized collection will become part of the Mountain West Digital Library, and will be available on www.mwdl.org, and the WSU Digital Collections website. Cost to the city will be $2,500.00. Summer activities in the community were announced in the June issue of The Pioneer Post. An Evening of Music at the Park scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2009, was postponed until July. Public hearings were held on Resolution 2009-E, Resolution 2009-F, Resolution 2009-G, and Resolution 2009-H, on Thursday, June 18, 2009. No public comments were offered on Resolution 2009- E, adopting the FY 2008-09 amended city budget, and Resolution 2009-F, adopting the FY 2009-10 final city budget. Resolution 2009-G, FY 2009-10 final budget for the Pioneer Special Service District, has not changed significantly since last year, and no public comment was offered. Resolution 2009-H,provides a fee increase for residential solid waste collection and disposal of $.50 per can, per month, and again no public comment was given. The public hearing was closed, and the City Council meeting resumed. The council unanimously passed Resolution 2009-E. Councilman Kim Slater questioned the large increase in service costs for the Weber County Sheriff contained in the projected city budget. Mayor Keith Butler met with the Sheriff about the increase and was informed it was necessary to save a truck inspection deputy position from going unfilled, and to bring the city in line with other contract cities. President Dennis Ilium is concerned that the city is not receiving the same service as other cities because we have not had a Community Resource Officer since January. Mr. Slater asked that Sheriff Brad Slater be invited to attend a city council meeting to answer questions the council may have. Councilman Delbert Hodson agrees with Mr. Slater and President Ilium on the large increase and feels that the city is not receiving the services. Lt. Matt Bell said he has 10 deputies assigned to him in the North Precinct. There is a similar number in the West Precinct. The sheriffs office is making some changes, one of which is having the Lieutenants perform the role of CRO for each city. He feels this new system will work well as he has access to deputies 24 hours a day to assist a city. The staff will contact the Sheriff about meeting with the council. Resolution 2009-F, adopting the FY 2009-10 final city budget was approved unanimously. Resolutions 2009-G was passed unanimously with no further discussion. After a brief discussion about the garbage fee increase on additional cans, Resolution 2009-H, was also passed unanimously.
