Show Marriott-Slaterville City History March 2009 Youth of our City, in grades 9-12, were invited to join the Marriott-Slaterville Youth Council. Darren Erwin is the Youth Council Advisor. The council has quarterly activities which give the youth opportunities to learn about local government, as well as to volunteer in the community. The youth council attended the Local Officials' Day at the Legislature, during this year's session. At the March 19, 2009, City Council meeting, Zack Spencer spoke on behalf of the Youth Council, reporting on the trip to the State Capitol Building. The Youth Council heard several speakers and had lunch at the Local Officials' Day. An Easter Egg Hunt for April 11, 2009, was announced in the March issue of The Pioneer Post for children age 1 -8. It will be held at the Slaterville Park beginning at 10:00 am. The Easter Bunny will make an appearance. The Les Olson Company will sponsor the event. The Central Weber Sewer Improvement District is building a parallel treatment plant directly to the east and north of the existing treatment plant at 2618 W. Pioneer Road. It is necessary to handle growth and to meet more stringent EPA standards. A huge 9' diameter pipe is being installed to carry excess water from the facility to the Warren Canal. The optimistic completion date is spring 2011. The Central Weber Sewer Improvement District has increased its monthly rate for sewer treatment from $7.50 to $14.30. The increase is needed for expansion of sewer services, and will appear on the Bona Vista water bill. A request for proposal for a farmer was listed in The Pioneer Post. The Pioneer Special Service District is requesting proposals from local farmers to farm 8-10 acres along Mill Creek with alfalfa. All field leveling/grading, planting alfalfa and irrigation is the responsibility of the farmer. Proposals should list the term for the lease, and rent payment proposed, along with any other pertinent details. At the March 19, 2009, City Council meeting, a business license was approved for Flattop's Trucking, Inc., 3489 West Pioneer Road, Trucking Business, which is home operated. A public hearing was held, as the public meeting was closed. The first matter concerned the reconstruction of the Marriott Park Bowery, and the allotment of a Weber County R.A.M.P. grant for the project, in the amount of $166,000. City Administrator Bill Morris showed the proposed reconstruction drawings of the bowery. The City proposes to demolish and reconstruct the bowery and make other site improvements, using the grant money. Danny Brown of the Park Committee, explained the recommendations of the committee. The new bowery will be built about 30 feet north of the present site, so that the trees at the park can be saved. The restrooms will be larger, and an island will be included in the kitchen for more work space. The grade of the bowery will be raised so that a sewer line can be run. Steve Mecham has volunteered to install the sewer line and possibly the fill. A cement monument from the Marriott Ward which has been at the park for many years, will be maintained and relocated at the east end of the park. No public comment was offered on the park bowery reconstruction. Concerning the 400 North Reconstruction Project, Mr. Morris explained that this road is maintained by our city. The City is coordinating with UDOT in preparing an environmental study to analyze and consider the reconstruction of 400 North from 1-15 to 1200 West. Final project reconstruction details are not finalized, but the City is currently examining the removal and replacement of the road surface and sub- grade, upgrade/replace affected utilities and irrigation systems, adding a center turn lane, widening the shoulder, curb, gutter, bike path, sidewalk, and landscaping improvements. At present, all expansion is being planned in the existing right-of-way. The original project called for five lanes, but this has been changed. The project schedule is anticipated to be Spring 2009 - Environmental Documents and Design; Summer 2009--Advertise for Construction; Fall/Winter 2009 - Construction. 146 |
