Show The Pioneer Post Volume XI Issue 10 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter October 2009 TRUNK-CE-TKEAT Trunk-or-Treat is at Slaterville Park (250 N 2200W) on Saturday, October 31. Set-up starts at 5:30 PM, and treats start 6:00 PM sharp. Come circle the wagons around the haunted grounds. Feast on chili, hot dogs, donuts, and hot chocolate. There will be candy galore and prizes. Bring a carved pumpkin, dress-up, and decorate your car. Questions, call DeAnn at 801-731-5129. In case of inclement weather an alternate location may be posted. Sleepy millcreek hollow Something is coming to the Western Woods of Marriott- Slaterville. Come visit Sleepy Millcreek Hollow at 3109 W. Pioneer Road. The festival will run October 8-10 and October 15-17 from 6PM-9PM. You can stroll Hawkhurst Village for artisans and crafts, listen to spine tingling stories at the Spooky Forge, see the scarecrows, or even brave the Trail of Terror! Admission is $3, group rates available. Trail of Terror is $5 and opens at 7:30PM. Spooky Forge stories begin at 7:30PM. This is your chance to recognize someone for going above and beyond as a neighbor, business, contributor, leader, or volunteer. Nominations are now being accepted by the Mayor for the following: The Good Neighbor Award - nominate a neighbor or business that is an exemplary example. Elna Lucas Community Culture/History Award - nominate a person who has contributed to our local community history and culture during the year. H. Orvil Holley Youth Leadership Award - nominate any youth who has shown outstanding leadership. Darrell Mecham Community Service Award - nominate an extraordinary volunteer in the community. The final deadline for nominations is November 30, 2009. Please send your nomination with a short statement supporting your nominee to Marriott-Slaterville City, 1570 West 400 North, MSC, UT 84404. MUNICIPAL ELECTICNS A municipal election will be held November 3rd. The names of the candidates, as they will appear on the November ballot is as follows: Mayor: Keith H. Butler. East District: Delbert F. Hodson. West District: Kim R. Slater. Election Law requires every voter to provide valid voter identification even if you are personally known by the poll worker. FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors and friends. They serve in area schools, Head Start Centers and youth facilities helping children learn to read, providing one on one tutoring and guiding children at a critical time in their lives. To join the program you must be over the age of 55, willing to serve 15-40 hours a week and living on an income below $1,805 a month for a single person and $2,428 a month for a couple and pass a background screening. Foster Grandparents receive a stipend of $2.65 an hour, mileage reimbursement and training. For more information call 801-625-3865 or 1-800-209-2503. EALL CLEAN-UP The city has scheduled its annual fall clean-up campaign. A dumpster will be located at Marriott Park and at Slaterville Park. The dumpsters will be provided at the parks from October 16 - 18. Please put all garbage completely inside the dumpster, not on the ground. This complimentary service is sponsored by Marriott- Slaterville City and Waste Management. FOR SCRAP METAL, a special recycle dumpster is at the City Office in the rear parking.
