Show Marriott-Slaterville History December 2009 The Good Neighbor award was presented to: Les and Becky Syme, nominated by Becky Burt. Alden and Ramona Farr, nominated by Kim and Dorothy Slater. The Elna Lucas Community History and Culture Award was presented to: Jamie Weeks, Weber State University, for their work on our city history. Daylynn Brandley for her work on the Music in the Park program, nominated by Elna Lucas. Adele Lewis for her donation to the DUP Memorial Library at the municipal building. The Darrell Mecham Outstanding Community Service Award was presented to: Karleen Warner, for her years of service in the senior lunch program. DeAnn Hufstetler, for her service in community activities and Trunk-or-Treat, nominated by Elna Lucas. The city has again been nominated for the Tree City USA Award from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Getting this nomination was helped by all the volunteers who assisted with community forestry and gardens this year. Special thanks were given in The Pioneer Postto two local nurseries, Tri City Nursery, who donated a Golden Deodare "Aurea" Cedar, and Lomond View Nursery who donated a rose bush. Residents are asked to watch for and complete the Census Questionnaire for the 2010 Census, which should be received soon. The foundation of American democracy depends on fair and equitable representation in the U. S. House of Representatives, and the Census is an important part of that. The McKay-Dee Senior Health Connection Newsletter for December 2009, gave information to seniors about preventing falls and what a person can do to be safer from falls. Bits and Pieces Kalvin Morris Calder, son of Jason and Jodi Calder, was born on December 17,2009. Rodney J. Price, died on December 10, 2009, at the age of 54. Kathy Hyde Smith was honored at a Layton City Council Meeting for her four year service on the council. She also served on the City Planning Commission for two years and helped as a volunteer to establish the Community Action Council and the Layton Youth Court. She did not run for re-election in the last election. She was known as an ardent defender of peoples' property rights. She and her husband, Bert Smith, recently moved into our city. 172 |
