Show The Pioneer Post Volume XI Issue 5 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter May 2009 Local Updates Office Hours. The City's office hours have changed as part of an energy conservation pilot program and for extended hours. The new office hours will be Monday - Thursday from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. The city office will be closed on Friday, unless an activity is pre-arranged. Please plan accordingly. 400 North Reconstruction. The city received a $7.5 million grant for the reconstruction of 400 North from 1-15 to 1200 West. The project is being scheduled for design, and the city must match 6% of the grant. Once the project is engineered, the full design can be announced. Thank you to all who commented on the project during the comment period, your comments have been submitted to the City Engineer for the Environmental Study. It is anticipated that UDOT will open the project for bid this summer, and construction will commence this fall. Marriott Park. The city obtained a $166,000.00 grant to reconstruct the Bowery and make various other park improvements at Marriott Park. Keep in mind when planning activities, that this park will be under construction this year. It is anticipated that the Bowery may be operable for the 4th of July. Additional improvements such as a safety improvements, a new playground, and a possible pressurized irrigation system are also in the process of being implemented. Demolition. The home at 1359 West 700 South was foreclosed, and then acquired and demolished by the City as a public nuisance abatement project. The property will be added to the Heritage Park Regional Storm Water Detention Basin. The City appreciates the patience of neighbors who have had to deal with this nuisance property for many years. Central Weber Sewer. The sewer plant is replacing its main outfall to the Weber River. The sewer plant will close 2800 West at Pioneer Road for several months, and Pioneer Road will be open but under construction for much of the summer. 1600 West Sidewalk. The City obtained a Safe-route to School Grant for $150,000.00 from UDOT to construct a sidewalk on the east side of 1600 West from 400 North to 250 North at Pioneer Elementary School. Construction may commence this summer under the direction of UDOT. Bees. A local beekeeper is interested in finding bees. Emergency Management An Emergency Management Training will be held on May 13th 6:30PM at the Municipal Building, 1570 West 400 North. The topic will be "who does what when a disaster occurs." Interested residents and especially CERT trained residents are encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Dixie Little at 801-731-4859. Requesting Donations of CERT & Emergency Supplies The Community Emergency Response Team is seeking donations for emergency items to stock the City's CERT storage units. Items include: first aid supplies, flashlights, blankets, duct tape, scissors, crescent wrench, sheets, plastic bags. RUMMAGE SALE A rummage sale will be held May 30th from 9:00-1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church located at 1339 West 400 North. The sale is sponsored by their women's organization and funds raised will support their local mission projects. The public is invited. . Special Thanks Thanks to our Youth Council and advisors who helped with the Easter Egg Hunt. It was a tremendous success and well- attended. Thank you to our forestry volunteers who have worked hard on the landscaping behind City Hall. With your service, Marriott-Slaterville again received the National Arbor Day Foundation - Tree City USA Award for a fourth year. Also, thanks to the residents who participated in the spring clean-up. Many residents do a wonderful job in keeping their yards orderly and attractive in the community.
