Show December 17, 2009 CARLOS MAYORGA/Standard-Examiner Two women were sent to the hospital in serious condition after their vehicles collided Wednesday morning at 1900 West and 1200 South in Marriott-Slaterville. One woman is six months pregnant. Deputies say she was struck by a vehicle that ran a red light. Two injured in Wednesday crash By CARLOS MAYORGA Standard-Examiner staff cmayorga@standard.net MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — Two women — one of whom is pregnant — were taken to area hospitals following a Wednesday morning crash at 1900 West and 1200 South. The accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. when Carrie Griggs was driving east on 1200 South in a blue Nissan Maxima and failed to stop for a red light. While going through the intersection at 1900 West, the 39-year-old's vehicle was struck by a car heading south on 1900 West, said Weber Coun ty Sheriff's Lt. Matthew Bell. That car, a white Toyota Cam- ry driven by Michelle Fretwell, 38, wound up crossing all lanes of traffic a*nd came to a rest on the east shoulder after the collision. Deputies are unsure how fast Fretwell's car was traveling, but the speed limit in that area on 1900 West is 50 mph. Bell said Fretwell is six months pregnant. Griggs was issued a citation for running a red light. She was treated and later released from McKay-Dee Hospital Center. As of late Wednesday afternoon, Fretwell remained hospitalized at Ogden Regional Medical Center in stable condition. A second crash occurred at the intersection not long after the first accident. Deputies had closed off all northbound traffic on 1900 West and were diverting those vehicles to 1200 South. Bell said a FedEx van was heading north on 1900 West when the driver turned onto 1200 South, then tried to make a quick U-turn to continue north and was struck by an SUV. None of the motorists involved in that wreck were injured. 126 |
