Show The Pioneer Post Volume XI Issue 3 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter March 2009 Legislative Report Dennis Ilium, City Council Marriott-Slaterville City has two separate but equal branches of government, the Executive Branch led by the Mayor, and the Legislative Branch lead by the City Council. The executive branch, under the Mayor, handles the daily operation of the city, municipal contracts, appoints certain officials, proposes the budget, responds to violations and complaints, manages parks, implements policies and services, among many other responsibilities. The legislative branch, under the control of the City Council, consists of five city council members. The City Council makes the law, adopts the budget, sets tax rates, confirms appointments, and has oversight ability. Two members of the City Council are elected from the east district, and two from the west district. One member of the City Council member is elected at-large. The city holds its elections in odd numbered years. In 2009, two seats on the City Council and the Mayor's office will be open for candidates to file starting in July.
