Description	This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins.

OCR Text	Show 18 JANUARY 17 DAYS PAST Saturday 348 DAYS TO COME A very happy day for us as our first great grand child was born at 12. 45 today by Maren Eccles Harly our second grand child, Ralph Williams Hardy its farther is working on air. The grand parents are very pleased & are young in looks. Maren went thro her labor very fine. Have dont but little except be anxious for Maren. She is a dear girl & very happy with Ralph over their darling boy 8 & Ralph complection. Very light red hair CANCER- DRIED TOADS IN CANCER In Erlangen, it was said that the eating of many onions would bite away cancer. Prevalent elsewhere was the belief that the growth of a toad-like body in the human organism created cancer. Therefore, dried toads were the advocated remedy. Enthusiastic eighteenth century sure cures were crayfish stewed in asses milk; the flesh of gray lizards; suckling puppies boiled in wine. Sunday 18 DAYS PAST JANUARY 19 347 DAYS TO COME Went to Dee Hospital to see our first Great grand child are we Happy? I slept late so did not go to Sunday School: Dr went & gave his lesson. We called to see Dr F.W. Baker who is 77 yr old today and is sick in bed & has been most all winter. Took him a gift & ice cream. We had turkey dinner with Myrene & family. Rested most of the afternoon after calling on Cleones family also Juniors. Carolyn their baby has a bad arm from vaccination. Justin Eccles was ordained a Decon in 12 Ward The happiness and unhappiness of men depend as much on their turn of mind as on fortune LA ROCHEFOUCAULD Rich Report Birth Of Great-grandchild Dr. and Mrs. Edward I. Rich are rejoicing over the arrival of their first great grandchild- a bouncing eight-pound boy born at the Dee hospital Saturday, Jan. 18 The mother is Maren Eccles Hardy, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Royal Eccles. The father, Ralph Hardy, is connected with KSL, Salt Lake City. This is the first grandchild for Mr. and Mrs. Eccles. OF MEDICAL HISTORY
