PHOSPHORUS- THREE DISCOVERERS Three names closely associated with the discovery of phosphorus are, the H amburg alchemist Brandt, Johann Kunckel and William Homberg. Brandt obtained phosphorus from evaporated urine (1669). The latter two are credited with its successful manufacture. It was the Swedish chemist, Gahn, who discovered phosphorus in bones in 1769. Scheele, working on this observation, devised a process of manufacturing phosphorus in 1775 that is still followed.
