Woman Dies, Spouse Missing In Boat Tragedy Storm Capsizes Craft on Bear Lake; Man Swims for Aid, Vanishes; Daughter Found Clinging to Vessel Searchers late Saturday were seeking the body of E. H. McAffee, 45, assistant manager of the Salt Lake office of the Metropolitan Life Insurance company, believed drowned in an accident that claimed the life oh is wife, Mrs. Evelyn McAffee, 45, late Friday night on Bear lake near Garden City, Utah. Mava, 16 year old daughter of the couple, was found unconscious, clinging to the overturned boat in which the group set out on a fishing trip at 11 a. m. Friday. She was recovering from shock and exposure Saturday. May Have Survived Mr. McAffee still may be afloat in Bear lake or may have reached shore. He was clinging to two life preservers when he attempted to swim to shore. Because the life preservers were of the seat cushion type and could not be strapped to his body, however, searcher believe he was drowned. The tragedy was the grim end to a vacation trip which the family started late Wednesday night. The party started across the lake Friday at 11 a. m. in the 18 foot motorboat, The Swan. At 6 p. m. Friday they were a mile east of the Boy Scout camp at Garden City when a storm and a heavy wind came up. Mrs. McAffee was drowned almost immediately. Her daughter clung to the overturned boat and was found lying across it. Saturday at 6:30 a. m. Mr. McAffee started swimming to shore An airplane and boats are searching for him. The body of Mrs. McAffee was recovered Saturday at 1: 30 p. m. by Deputy Sheriff R. G. Stock and M. H. Everton of Fish Haven. Son Foregoes Cruise Boyd McAffee, 23, accompanied his parents and sister on the trip, but remained at Fish Haven camp when they started the fishing jaunt. He has suffered poor health since last June, and Salt Lake relatives said his inability to participate in strenuous sports probably saved his life. All victims of the accident could swim, but not well enough to cope with the rough lake waters. The family left their home at 1331 Shannon avenue Wednesday night on a two-week vacation trip, said Mrs. G. R. Leonard, a neighbor and friend. Mrs. Leonards daughter, Ann Marie, received a post card from Mava mailed from Fish Haven resort Friday which said the family was enjoying surf board riding and other water sports. Don B.
