Show 17 FEBRUARY 47 DAYS PAST Monday 318 DAYS TO COME A beautiful day. After general house work all forenoon, prepared a hot noon meal. At 2 P.M. I went to D.U.P. Board meeting held at the new home of Mrs Pauline on Waterfall on Mt. Road in Davis Co. About 35 present. Reports given of the Ball and 250.00 cleared. This evening Dr & I attended Community Concert Yehide Menuhin gave a wonderful programme on the violin. The finest I ever heard. EFFIGIES- SICK MANS DUMMY A favorite method in the treatment of disease among Borneo natives is by the use of effigies. The sick man is taken from his house and brought to another, while a dummy of pillows and cloths is left on his bed. The disease-demon is supposed to mistake the dummy for the sick man; the disease enters the effigy, and the sick man recovers.
