Show 11 JUNE 161 DAYS PAST Wednesday 204 DAYS TO COME SKIN CARE OF NEWBORN BABY At the Philadelphia General Hospital, using the non-cleansing technic reported by Patrick and Black, skins of newborn babies were amazingly clean 24 hours after birth. The bottocks were cleansed with cotton balls impregnated with sterile water, and excess of vernix caseosa removed from the body surface and creases. Olive, antiseptic and mineral oils, and ammoniated mercury ointment, proved less effective as preventives of skin diseases. Smart LOGAN- Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Alvinia Hatch Smart, 82, who died last Thursday in Los Angeles, Cal., will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. in Logan Third L D S ward chapel. Burial will be in Logan City cemetery. Friends may call at Lindquist & Sons funeral chapel Tuesday from 1:15 p. m. until time for services. Services had been set previously for Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Mrs. Smart was born February 13, 1859, at Lehi, a daughter of Lorenzo Hill and Catherine Karren Hatch. At an early age she moved with her parents to Franklin, Idaho, where her father was an early colonized an da pioneer L D S bishop. She was married to Thomas Smart, former Logan banker and trustee of Utah State Agricultural college, in the old Salt Lake L D S Endowment house. About 25 years ago the couple moved from Logan to Salt Lake City and later to Los Angeles, Cal. Mrs. Smart had been active in L D S church affairs both in Utah and California. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Catherine Foss of Preston, Idaho; Mrs. Spencer Wright of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Mada Powell of Alameda, Cal.: Carl and Lorenzo Smart of Los Angeles, Cal.; Junius Smart of Oakdale, Cal.; Mrs. Helen Pierson of New York City and Zella Smart of Beverly Hills, Cal.; 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Wilford Hatch of Franklin, Idaho; Mrs. Chloe Daines, Mrs. Elizabeth Daines, Mrs. Ruth H. Hale and Lorin J. Hatch of Salt Lake City, Thomas Hatch of Cardston, Alta., Canada; Delbert and John Hatch, Mrs. Nettie Shumway, Lula Smith, Mrs. Lenora Savage and Mrs. May Decker of Snowflake, Ariz.
