Show EXPECTATION OF LIFE A rule for calculating the expectation of life is as follows: Between the ages of 20 and 45- deduct the present age from 96, and half of the remainder gives the expectancy. Between the ages of 20 and 30 the result is slightly below the average; and over 40 it is slightly above. For estimating the expectancy of those over 45, the number 90 should be used as the fixed number, instead of 96. Generally, the expectation of life in women is about three years more than in men. During the child-bearing period the life expectation of women is some-what less, but it rises, and is greater than that of men after the fiftieth year. THE PULSE RATE In health the pule varies according to certain conditions, such as age, sex, temperament, exercise, excitement, food and temperature. The relation of the respiration rate to the pulse rate is approximately 1 to 4. The hearts action is generally more frequent in females than in males.
