Show The Sewer District increased its monthly rate for sewer treatment from $7.50 to $14.30. The increase is needed for expansion cost of sewer services, and appears on the Bona Vista Water bill. The Central Weber Sewer closed 2800 West at Pioneer Road for several months for replacement of its main outfall to the Weber River. Cory Duncan, of MWH, explained that 2800 West had to be closed for four months for the construction of the line. It includes two cast-in-place 12' by 4' boxes, which were poured in place, with the need of time for the concrete to cure. The "pipe" had to be placed deeper than usual in the ground, and needed pouring in place to withstand the weight of the dirt and hydrology. The City Council asked that the construction company park their equipment off the road when not working, so residents would not have to detour around them to access 2800 West. The road construction was completed in September 2009, finishing 2800 West first and then Pioneer Road. Residents were detoured from Pioneer Road via the new 2800 West for approximately three days for road replacement. Parks The new bowery at the Slaterville Park was completed and available for reservation. Following the council meeting on May 21, 2009, the council, mayor, and some members of the park committee, along with some residents, attended the ribbon cutting and dedication of the new bowery. Mayor Butler and President Ilium thanked the staff and all involved for their work on the new facility. Those in attendance were invited to tour the new building. The ceremony adjourned about 8:45 p.m. The park at City Hall is nearing completion. Park reservations can be made by contacting the City Office at 801 - 627-1919, Ext. 202. The August 2009 issue of The Pioneer Post brought us the good news that the playground at the park at City Hall is complete. Restrooms, lighting and the bowery are still under construction. . City residents are fortunate in having accredited volunteers working on this park. At the City Council Meeting on June 18, 2009, Regina Smout was presented a USU Extension Master Tree Steward Certificate by USU Horticulturist for Weber County, Jerry Goodspeed. Other Master Gardeners and forestry volunteers have worked hard on the landscaping for this beautiful park. It has been interesting to watch the work in progress. The first wedding reception in the specially designed bridal area of the park at the city office complex was held on August 1, 2009. The couple honored were Aubrey Dimick of our community and Cordell Stevens. Sheriff Brad Slater reported in the July 12, 2009, issue of the Standard ExaminerXhaX budget cutbacks may reduce the number of inmates available for community service. Our city has been the recipient of such help in the development of the playground at the city office park, and other areas in the park. A public hearing was held on March 19, 2009, concerning the reconstruction of the Marriott Park Bowery, and the allotment of a Weber County R.A.M.P. grant for the project, in the amount of $166,000. City Administrator Bill Morris showed the proposed reconstruction drawings of the bowery. The City proposes to demolish and reconstruct the bowery and make other site improvements, using the grant money. Danny Brown of the Park Committee, explained the recommendations of the committee. The new bowery will be built about 30 feet north of the present site, so that the trees at the park can be saved. The restrooms will be larger, and an island will be included in the kitchen for more work space. The grade of the bowery will be raised so that a sewer line can be run. Steve Mecham has volunteered to install the sewer line and possibly the fill. A cement monument from the Marriott Ward which has been at the park for many years, will be maintained and relocated at the east end of the park. Mr. Morris said there will be a video security system at the new bowery. No public comment was offered on the park bowery reconstruction. The city issued a request for proposals for a contractor to demolish and reconstruct the Marriott Park bowery according to the city provided plans, by April 6, 2009. Seven responses were received, and were opened on April 7, 2009. The Park Committee, consisting of Delbert Hodson, Danny Brown, Ron Holmes, Orvil Holley and Joe Deru, ranked each proposal according to the criteria outlined in the RFP. Based on the highest ranked contractor, the Park Committee recommended that Overland Homes be awarded the project, for a total cost of $137,916.32. The R.A.M.P. fund allotted was higher than the bid, because it includes other park improvements and costs. The council unanimously approved awarding the contract to Overland Homes. 13 |
