Show Marriott-Slaterville History April 2009 part of the S.R. 39 reconstruction. Mayor Butler thanked Kelly Hipwell and Weber County for repairing the many pot holes caused by the winter weather. Also, snow plowing, costing $9,000, was handled well by the county. Councilman Kim Slater has received a resident complaint that lower Pioneer Road is too high and holds storm water. He mentioned that the road striping below the freeway on 400 North does not match up. He also provided a copy of the Mosquito Abatement annual report. Councilman Delbert Hodson reported that the Ogden Nature Center has a lake across from his house and he is concerned about mosquitos. Spring Clean Up Days with a dumpsters at the Marriott Park and the Slaterville Park will be April 17 - 19, 2009. The complimentary service is sponsored by the city and Waste Management. Residents were asked to be sure that ail material was completely inside the dumpster and not left on the ground. Magistrate Orvil Holley ruled in favor of Marriott-Slaterville City in the matter of the junk accumulation on Lloyd Vit's property in the city. Criminal charges against Mr. Vit are pending, with a court date in July. An Easter Egg Hunt for children 1 through 8 was held on April 11, 2009, at the Slaterville Park, beginning at 10:00 a.m. It was sponsored by the city and the Les Olson Company. The Youth Council, under the direction of Darren and Angela Erwin were in charge of the event. In spite of a somewhat rainy day, approximately 110 children attended, divided into three age groups: three years of age and under, four to seven, and eight years old (with a few nines). There were 1200 candy-filled eggs hidden, and 500 other pieces of candy distributed. The hit of the event was a visit by the Easter Bunny, who handed out chocolate eggs to the children. Julie and Daniel Holley also helped out. They seemed to have a special interest in the Easter Bunny. Perhaps they felt a kinship there? Thanks to them, the Youth Council and especially their hard-working advisors, for such a fun community event. The McKay-Dee Senior Health Connection sponsored a visit by Amy Drake on April 7, 2009, at the Senior Center. Tips for a more effective visit with a doctor were given. They also hosted a Bingo Game for Seniors on April 29* at 2:00 p.m. at the McKay-Dee Hospital. A "Coming of Age Conference 2009" Ready, Set...Revitalize.!, sponsored by the Weber County Organization for the Elderly, was held on April 29, 2009, at the Ogden Marriott Hotel, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. It was for anyone interested in lifestyles of people 50 and older. Other sponsors were Gardens Assisted Living, Mountain Ridge Assisted Living, and Comfort Keepers. Bits and Pieces Nolee Lavon Miller, daughter of David and Jody Miller, was born April 17, 2009. Jane Ella Deru, daughter of David and Patricia Deru, was bom on April 19, 2009. Breetyn Nowell, daughter of Mark and Kendria Nowell, was bom on April 20, 2009. Scott Elwin Slater, died in an automobile accident, on April 17, 2009, at the age of 51. Marybeth Capell, attending Fremont High School, received the American Degree Award at the FFA State Convention in Logan in April. 150 |
